Foreigners Everywhere – Stranieri Ovunque

Preview of the Venice Biennale “After the Market” on Saturday, 20.04.2024 at 12:30 pm.

Foreigners Everywhere” is the title of the 60th International Exhibition in Venice. The theme is derived from a series of works by Claire Fontaine, a collective based in Palermo and originally from Paris. The Italian title “Stranieri Ovunque” in turn comes from the name of a Turin-based collective that fought against racism and xenophobia in Italy in the early 2000s.

A preview took place on April 17, 18 and 19. The event is reported on by otte1. The Venice Biennale is often referred to as the “Olympics of the art world” and is considered the oldest and most influential art event in the world. In 2024, works from a total of 332 participants will be shown. There are 87 national participations in the historic pavilions in the Giardini, the Arsenale and the city of Venice.

The organization of the Biennale is significant for the Schleswig-Holstein Künstlerhaus in that artists from four foreign countries, namely Taiwan, Lithuania, Greece and Lebanon, will be guests in the second quarter.

The theme of colonialism, which was the subject of last Saturday’s post-market, determines Portugal’s contribution to the Biennale, where three women of African descent, Mónica de Miranda, Sónia Vaz Borges and Vânia Gala, present a “Creole garden”.

Amanda Ziemele will represent Latvia at the 2024 Biennale. The artist had her first solo exhibition outside Latvia in Eckernförde five years ago, shortly after graduating from the Dresden Academy. We remember.
