Expect the Unexpected

“If you do not expect the unexpected, you will not recognize it when it arrives.” This quote from the Greek philosopher Heraclitus can be used to summarise the events in the “After the Market” series. As different as the artistic approaches of the otte1 scholarship holders are, as surprising are the performances that are presented in the event room of the Künstlerhaus on Saturdays at 12.30 pm.

It will be no different on 11 November. A project from Hanover, the city where our board member Anja Römisch worked for many years as managing director of the Sparkasse foundation management, will be shown.

Art as an extraordinary part of an ordinary service was the brief for a series of construction projects initiated by Hanover’s public transport authority in the 1990s. The BUSSTOPPS project was realised by internationally renowned architects and designers.

For the bus stop shown here, Italian architect and designer Ettore Sottsass reinterpreted the “table” principle. His yellow cross lattice forms the bright frame for the grey “tablecloth” under which passengers can wait.

Conclude the usual weekend shopping with an unusual “dessert”. Admission is free.
