Artists Statement

Ikuru Kuwajima

scholar visual arts  1.4. – 30.6.2025

What made you apply for the otte1 scholarship?

First of all, it’s because the residency is located by the Baltic Sea. I wanted to continue the project about it.

What did you work on during your stay?

I continued to work on the project about the Baltic Sea. It ended in a nice exhibition, and I’m very happy about the outcome. Beside that, I enjoyed everything – from the white asparagas to the archery, Gut Ludwigsburg and the trip to the exhibition in Kiel.

What inspired you at the Künstlerhaus in Eckernförde?

The condition was very good, and it helped me work on the project. I also liked the fact that it’s close to the seaside. I enjoyed the walk twice a day everyday.

What do you take away from Eckernförde for your further artistic development?

Everything I did for the project. I also experiemented different things. Like with the cherry blossom’s bark. I think they will be nice inspirations for future works!

What would you like to add?

Thank you very much for all the support! I’m very glad that I came here. I liked it here so much that I didn’t really leave in the end. Just I’m leaving for Berlin for a few days. I would live here another 3 months if another opportunity arises.
