Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027
In the “After the Market” series, Ieva Rubeze from Liepāja will present the preparations for the European Capital of Culture 2027 on Saturday, November 9 at 12:30 pm.
Ieva Rubeze is a member of this year’s jury for the selection of next year’s otte1 scholarship holders.
As a curator, she organized the exhibition “Along the Way” in her home city in May of this year. It dealt with the core theme of Liepāja 2027: (dis-)quiet. Rubeze explains: “This inherent (dis)quiet is the driving force that propels us forward. And we are determined to channel this force directly into the sails of our program. With this exhibition, we invite both residents and guests of the city to rediscover Liepāja’s unique paradoxes on the road to the European Dream.”
“By displaying artworks in stores, cafés and banks along Tirgoņu Street, a familiar route for many locals on their way to the city’s market, we hope to boost the community’s confidence and inspire them on their journey.” Ieva Rubeze’s statement is reminiscent of the link to the market activity that is also practiced in our weekly “After the Market” event series.
