Artist Residency – Open House

On Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 12:30 p.m. there will be a preview of a symposium that will take place on Monday, November 11 at otte1.

The Schleswig-Holstein Künstlerhaus otte1 has been hosting numerous artists for three decades. The guests come from all over the world. This year, the number of applications has exceeded 500 for the first time.

The symposium begins on Monday, November 11 at 10:00 am. It deals with perspectives and problems of hospitality. It means looking at an inherent dilemma. On the one hand, the host, i.e. the management of an artists’ residence, strives to apply self-imposed criteria when selecting guests; on the other hand, there are regulations and conditions that are imposed on the residence from outside.

These are, for example, the requirements of the sponsors of funding programs or the expectations of the public as well as the hopes and wishes of the applicants.

In the “Artist Residency – Open House” project, we want to develop a field of action that lies between unconditional openness to the admission of anyone interested in a hospitable welcome and the exclusions and exclusions that derive from certain rules set in the field.

The panel will include: the current jury members for the selection of the Visual Arts 2025 scholarships, Ieva Rubeze (European Capital of Culture 2027 Liepaja) and Fethi Sahraoui (Collective 220 Algiers), a representative of the Ministry of Education, Training, Science, Research and Culture. Discussion participants from administration and politics are also invited.

It is possible to register for the symposium on Saturday for a registration fee of 10 euros. Catering will be provided for the participants. The number of participants is limited to 25. The symposium will be recorded and broadcast by Offener Kanal.

Be curious.
