Lecture / talk after the market, Saturday 19 October 2024 at 12:30

In her talk, artist, curator, and researcher Ksenia Yurkova will discuss her series of works titled “Economic Depressive Episode”, as well as the broader conditions of artistic labor, with a focus on its economic and political dimensions. Drawing on her collaboration with organizations working at the intersection of art and human rights, as well as findings from various surveys and observations conducted at the artistic research laboratory InSILo, Yurkova will provide insights into these themes.

Ksenia Yurkova (b. 1984) is an artist, curator, and researcher. Her primary artistic mediums include text, photography, video, and installation. Her work revolves around communication and language—its various forms, potential for transformation, mythological aspects, and the impact of stereotyping in both personal and political identification. She also examines the issues of memory, attitudes, and reliance, with her recent research focusing on affect as an autonomous bodily manifestation in both personal and political contexts.

Yurkova has participated in numerous exhibitions and festivals worldwide and has received several stipends and prizes. Her works are part of public and private collections across Russia, Germany, France, Finland, and Austria. She is currently co-directing AIR InSILo in Austria and pursuing her doctoral degree at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna.
