David Kroell – Drawing | Dissolution | Space
On Saturday, November 8, at 12:30 p.m., David Kroell will speak at the Künstlerhaus otte1 after the market on the topic: Drawing | Dissolution | Space
David Kroell, born in Xanten in 1985, studied fine arts at the Berlin University of the Arts under Rebecca Horn and was a master student of Gregor Schneider. He is currently a scholarship holder at the Künstlerhaus.
His artistic practice focuses on minimal and processual sculptural exploration of spaces—in particular, elements that are not immediately apparent or visible. This consistently “non-objective” sculptural practice brings the invisible, the unseen, the unnoticed into the focus of attention and pursues the idea of the catalytic potential of space—processes of decay and regeneration, of dismantling and rebuilding, which bring out the potentialities of space and sharpen perception.
The lecture deals with his individual artistic development and highlights aspects of the sources from which the artistic works emerge. In particular, art-historical influences from performance and action art are discussed and the importance of artistic drawing is demonstrated.
